The initial step of admission procedure is to conduct the Common Admission Test. After the exam announcement, all the IIMs will cater the details for admission process which comprises of cutoff, past academic profile, diversity factor etc. Once the result is declared, by the IIMs and other associated institutes, the list of shortlisted candidates is prepared on the basis of the Exam Cutoff. This initiated the second step of selection process.
In the second step, the candidates are invited for Group Discussion, Written Ability Test and Personal Interview. While all the B-Schools conduct Personal Interview for admissions, GD and WAT rounds differ for different B-Schools.
The other factors which form a part of selection procedure include past educational records, significance, work experience, secondary activities and diversity factors. The diversity of these factors changes from B-School to B-School.

CAT Counselling details:
Contenders who get qualified in an exam need to appear for counseling process. Aspirants who have made their registration and payment of requisite fee are permissible to appear for counselling. Students need to approach at the counselling centres on the scheduled date along with original particulars and photo copies of relevant credentials for verification purpose. There are three stages of Counselling:
- Online Registration
- Seat allocation and Payment
- Counselling and Admission
If a candidate fails to appear in Counselling Process, then a waiting candidate in the list will be allotted seat in his/her position. The documents required to appear for Counselling include:
- Date of birth certificate
- Transfer Certificate (TC) from the Institution attended and Conduct Certificate.
- Mark lists of all Qualifying Degree examination and Certificates
- Migration Certificate, if applicable.
- Caste and Income Certificate
- Other specified documents as prescribed by an Institute
