सीएसआईआर का पूर्ण रूप “वैज्ञानिक और औद्योगिक अनुसंधान परिषद” है। काउंसिल ऑफ साइंटिफिक एंड इंडस्ट्रियल रिसर्च (CSIR) भारत सरकार द्वारा सितंबर 1942 में एक स्वायत्त निकाय के रूप में स्थापित किया गया था जो कि विभिन्न एस एंड टी क्षेत्रों में अपने अत्याधुनिक अनुसंधान एवं विकास ज्ञान आधार के लिए जाना जाता है, एक समकालीन आरएंडडी संगठन है। सीएसआईआर भारत में सबसे बड़ा अनुसंधान और विकास संगठन के रूप में उभरा है।

Goals And Vision of CSIR

CSIR-IITR is a pioneer in toxicology research and seeks to address human health and environmental problems. The institute aims to fulfill its goals with the following objectives –

  • Safety assessment of chemicals used in industry, agriculture and daily life.
  • Determining the mechanism of toxic chemicals / pollutants.
  • Suggest remedial / preventive measures to protect health and environment from pollutants.
  • Identifying occupational health hazards caused by exposure to chemical industries, mines, agricultural sectors and the environment.
  • Undertake spontaneous / rapid diagnostic testing for disorders caused by industrial and environmental chemicals.
  • Collection, storage and dissemination of information on toxic chemicals.
  • To develop human resources to deal with industrial and environmental problems.
  • To provide a platform to the public and entrepreneurs to discuss questions and concerns regarding the safety / toxicity of chemicals, additives and products.

The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research is India’s largest research and development institute on science and technology. It was established in 1972. Its 39 laboratories and 50 field stations are spread all over India. It employs more than 14,000 employees.
