# GMAT Exam Pattern

GMAC has made some new change in GMAT Exam Pattern. In GMAT New Format, there is change in time duration and number of questions asked in both Quant and Verbal Paper. Now, Graduate Management Admission Test is shorter by 30 minutes. Now, instead of 4 hours, participant will get total 3.5 hours.

Quick overview of the GMAT Format Changes

• ‘Select Section Order’ feature will be there, you can choose the section order as per your comfort.
• Instead of 37 Quantitative Reasoning questions, there will be 31 questions from now onwards and timing has been reduced from 75 min to 62 min.
• Instead of 41 Verbal Reasoning questions, there will be 36 questions from now and timing has been reduced from 75 min to 65 min.
• Earlier, you have 150 minutes to complete the quant and verbal section but from now, there will be 127 minutes.
• Exam Timing will be of 3.5 hours including instructions and breaks. Earlier, it was 4 hours.

Why a new change in GMAT Exam Pattern has been made by GMAC?

• Earlier, GMAT Verbal Reasoning section has 11 questions that are of experimental type from total 41 questions but now there are 6 experimental questions.
• Similarly, in GMAT Quantitative Reasoning section, earlier there were 9 questions but from now there are only 3 experimental questions.

GMAT Marking Scheme

In GMAT test, Analytical Writing Assessment as well as Integrated Reasoning sections is non-adaptive whereas Quantitative and Verbal sections are adaptive. Quantitative section now consists of 31 questions and 62 minutes of time duration that means applicants have two minutes for each question.

Verbal portions have now 36 questions, so you have less time to complete this portion in comparison of Quantitative. Individuals have 65-minute time limit to complete the verbal section i.e. 108 seconds per question. For analytical writing section, students have 30 minutes to write the essay.

GMAT is Computer Adaptive Test- Meaning

This means that you need to complete your Quantitative and Verbal Reasoning section in the given time period only. In Computer Adaptive Test, after answering the question, you will get score of that question and move on to the next question.

How it Works?

If your answered question is correct, then you will get difficult question another time and if the answer is incorrect, then next question arisen will be easier and this process will be continued until the questions asked in the section ends up.
