How to Become An IAS Officer After 12th

Becoming an IAS officer is not possible after 12th. So 12th passed students can’t participate in this examination. After completing 12th, they must complete Graduation first. After completing Graduation degree apply for CSE exam to become an IAS Officer.

To become an IAS Officer, you need to appear in civil service exam which is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).In order to get selected for the training, you need to qualify preliminary, mains and personal interview.

How to Become An IAS Officer After Graduation

  • IAS Age Limit- Maximum 32 years in general category and 35 years in reserved quotas.
  • Academic qualification- Graduatein any stream.

There are some other eligibility conditions which are to be kept in mind:

For the IAS and the IPS, the candidate must be a citizen of India. For the other services, a candidate must be either:

  • a citizen of India, or
  • a subject of Nepal, or
  • a subject of Bhutan, or
  • a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before January 1, 1962, with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
  • a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia,Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

How To Become an IAS Officer Step By Step Guidance

Procedure of how to become an IAS officer in 2019 is given below in the form of steps. Follow it step by step and achieve your desired goal:

STEP 1

As per the requirement, you have to acquire application form along with information brochure, which you will get from any of the post offices throughout the country. After this you have to submit the filled application form through online or offline mode, according to the instructions.

Step 2:

Candidates have to appear for the Indian Civil Services Preliminary Examination which is conducted in the month of May or June. This examination is renamed as Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT). This examination consists of 2 papers. Marking and duration details of this exam are given below:

Step 3:

After qualifying Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT), many candidates are selected and taken further for the final exam i.e. MAINS. Approx. first 10,000 candidates are selected for the further procedure. MAINS includes following paper according to the marking scheme given below:

Essay type Indian Language Qualifying Paper(300 marks)
English Qualifying Paper(300 marks)
General Essay type paper(200 marks)
General Studies papers(300 marks each)
Optional subjects papers(300 marks each)

All these papers consist of three hours each.

Step 4:

After getting selected in MAINS, qualified candidates are selected further for interview round. Personal interview is taken to check candidate’s personality and mental ability. Finally, a list is created after personal interviews including the candidates which have scored really well and are eligible for the particular post.

Applicants who will be shortlisted they will be admitted to National Academy of Administration at Mussoorie which is now known as Lal Bahadur Sastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) to inform guidance of IAS probationers. After completion of the training, candidates are posted as per requirements of the Central and State Governments.

To prepare for the examination, candidate must start preparing 12 months before the exam. You must focus on the quality of matter what you are studying not on the quantity that how much you are studying. Try to give 3 to 4 hours a day for your study and extend it to 8 to 9 hours a day.
