How to Become An IAS Officer After Graduation

Get a Bachelor Degree:

  • Candidates who wish to become IAS officer after acquiring higher secondary are required to obtain graduation in any field from a well UGC recognized institution of higher education.
  • In other case ‘Bachelor degree’ is actually the minimum qualification required to apply for the civil service exam.

Qualify the Civil Service Exam:

The all India combined competitive examination for Civil Service comprises of two stages and they are;

Preliminary Examination; is an objective type format, consist general studies and an optional subject; conducted in the month of May/ June annually. This has questions for 150 marks from general section and 300 marks from optional subject. And Candidates who have cleared the preliminary examination are eligible for the main exam.

Main Examination

Now, in this exam, there are “9” papers that you have to give and it is of descriptive type! Time duration for each paper is three hours and this paper includes:

1 Essay type Indian Language Qualifying300 marks each
1 English  Qualifying300 marks each
1 General Essay type200 marks
2 General Studies300 marks each
4 Optional subjects300 marks each

Then lastly after qualifying the “main examination” phase;
