IPS Exam 2020!! UPSC has released exam calendar for year 2020. Candidates who want to appear for Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2020 can apply for the application form from 12-02-2020 to till 03-03-2020. Civil Services Prelims Examination is of 1 day and will be held on 31-05-2020 (Sunday) while mains exam is for 5 days and will be on 18-09-2020. Every year Union Public Service Commission conducts IPS Entrance Exam in 2 phases (Prelims/ Mains) to hire eligible and result oriented candidates for the posts of higher level police officials, especially concerned with the maintenance of law and order across the country.
IPS Exam
IPS officers Works in four major departments namely- Crime Investigation Department, Crime Branch, Home Guards and Traffic Bureau, your department will be deiced by the selection authority on the basis of your presentation in Interview session.
IPS Eligibility Criteria
To apply for Indian Police Service Exam 2019, a candidate must be a citizen of India.
For other services, a candidate must be either:—
(a) a citizen of India, or
(b) a subject of Nepal, or
(c) a subject of Bhutan, or
(d) a Tibetan refugee
(e) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
Minimum Education Qualification
Candidate applying for UPSC IPS Exam should have degree of any Universities incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institute set up by an Act of Parliament or affirmed to be deemed as a University under Section-3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956.
IPS Age Limit
To appear in IPS 2019, your age should be as follows:
- Minimum Age: 21 Years
- Maximum Age: 32 years
Applying candidate’s age should not be earlier than 2nd August, 1987 and not later than 1st August, 1998.
Relaxation in Upper Age will be given as prescribed below:
- SC/ST: upto a maximum of 5 years
- OBC: upto a maximum of 3 years

Application Fee
To apply for IPS Entrance Exam, candidates have to pay application fee of Rs. 100/-. Candidates belonging to SC/ST/ Female/Physically Handicapped category are exempted for payment of fee. The payment of application fee can be done through proper channel as mentioned in notification of IPS.
Plan of Examination
IPS Exam is conducted in two phases:
1. Preliminary Examination (Objective Type)
In this, the paper consists of multiple choice questions and carries a maximum of 400 marks. Negative marking will be there for incorrect answers and one-third (0.33) of the marks will be deducted for wrong answer. Qualifying candidates of prelims exam are eligible to appear for mains exam.
2. Main Examination (Written and Interview)
Written examination will have 9 papers of conventional essay type and qualifying candidates of written test can appear for interview round. Interview Round will carry 275 marks. Final ranking will be done on the basis of written test and interview.
IPS Exam Pattern
IPS Preliminary Exam Pattern:
- Examination comprise of two compulsory papers of 200 marks each. Both the question papers will have objective type (multiple choice questions).
- Question papers will be set both in Hindi and English.
- Each paper will be of two hours duration
- Blind candidates will however, be allowed an extra time of twenty minutes for each paper.

Candidates can fill IPS 2019 Application Form by following the steps mentioned below:
- Visit official portal of Union Public Service Commission i.e. www.upsc.gov.in
- Press On “Recruitment” section from menu bar and hit on “Active Examinations”.
- Visit the appropriate link from the opened page i.e. Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2019.
- Read all the details from IPS Notification.
- For applying online, visit the website i.e. www.upsconline.nic.in
- Now, you have to hit on online application link to do IPS Online Registration.
- After filling IPS Registration Form, upload necessary documents along with IPS Online Application form.
- Make payment of fee, take a preview of form.
- Submit application form & carry hard copy of it for further use.
