Candidates interested in getting admission in PhD and Integrated PhD programme may apply for JEST 2018. Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST) is organized by various research institutes for those candidates who wish to take admission in PhD and Integrated PhD programme for two subjects – physics and theoretical computer science/neuroscience/Computational Biology in institutions like ARIES, Bose Institute, HBNI, HRI, ICTS, IGCAR, IIA, IISc, IISER BHOPAL and others. The Joint Entrance Screening Test is as same as NET (National Eligibility Test) and SERB (Science & Engineering Research Board)and here we are providing all the details regarding it like the Eligibility, Exam Date, Admit Card, Syllabus, Preparation Tips etc. candidates are advised to take a glance over the whole.

Those candidates who want to appear in the JEST Examination have to fill up the online application form first. After completely filling up the application form candidates will be registered on the official website of JEST. Once the online application procedure is closed the authorities will issue the JEST Admit Card on the official web portal. Candidates have to download the JEST Hall Ticket and have to carry it along at the time of examination.  After successful commencement of examination the authorities will declare the JEST Results. Those candidates who will get their names in the JEST Merit list will attend the counseling procedure. Final decision of Admission in PHD will be done on the basis of Qualification procedure. JEST 2018 Eligibility:

Ph.D. Programme (Physics)
  • M.Sc. in Physics (all participating Institutes).
  • Additionally, some institutes accept B.E. / B.Tech. / M.Sc. / M.E. / M.Tech. in disciplines of Applied Physics and Mathematics, as listed below:
  • M.Sc. in Mathematics / Applied Physics / Applied Mathematics / Optics and Photonics / Instrumentation / Electronics will also be considered at IIA.
  • B.E. or B.Tech will be considered at IISc, IMSc, ICTS-TIFR, IUCAA, JNCASR, NCRA-TIFR, TIFR-TCIS, RRI, IISER Mohali, IISER Pune, IISER Thiruvananthapuram.
  • M.Sc. in Physics / Electronics / Astronomy / Applied Mathematics will be considered at IUCAA.
  • MSc in Physics, Engineering Physics or Applied Physics will also be considered at IPR.
  • M.Sc. in Physics, Chemistry, Applied Mathematics, Biophysics or Biochemistry will be considered at SNBNCBS.
  • B.Tech Eng. Phys.will be considered at TIFR.
  • M.E./ M.Tech in Applied Physics  will be considered at NISER.
Theoretical Computer Science at IMScM.Sc./ M.E. / M.Tech. in Computer Science and related disciplines, and should be interested in the mathematical aspects of computer science.
Ph D in Neuroscience at NBRCM.Sc (Physics/ Mathematics), B.E/ B.Tech/ M.C.A in Computer Science
Ph D in Computational Biology at IMScM.Sc./ M.E. / M.Tech. ​/ MCA  ​in any engineering or science discipline, with good mathematical skills and strong interest in biological problems.
Integrated M.Sc. / M.Tech – Ph.D Programme (Physics)


  • B. Sc. (Physics / Mathematics) will be considered at SNBNCBS.
  • B. Sc. (Physics) will be considered at IMSc.
  • B.Sc. (Physics / Mathematics) / B.E. / B.Tech. in Electrical / Instrumentation / Engineering Physics / Electronics and Communications / Computer Science and Engineering / Optics and Photonics will be considered in IIA.
  • B.Sc (Physics) or B.E./B. Tech in Engineering Physics , with a minimum of first class marks, will be considered at NISER.
  • B.Sc. (Physics) will be considered at IISER-Pune, ICTS-TIFR, NCRA-TIFR, and TIFR-TCIS.
  • B. Sc. (Physics / Mathematics) / B.E. / B.Tec. will be considered for Integrated M.Sc – PhD at Bose Institute.
Integrated Ph.D Programme in Theoretical Computer Science at IMScB.Sc./B.E./B.Tech./M.C.A. in Computer Science or related disciplines and should be interested in the mathematical aspects of computer science.
Integrated M.Tech – Ph.D. Programme at IIAM.Sc. (Physics / Applied Physics) / Post-B.Sc. (Hons) in Optics and Optoelectronics / Radio Physics and Electronics.
Integrated Ph.D. Programme at IISER IISER. Thiruvananthapuram.B. Sc. (Physics) or B.E. / B. Tech. in any discipline.
M. Sc. Programme at HRI.
  • B. Sc. (Physics) or B.E./B.Tech. degree in any discipline
  • HRI is starting a new M.Sc. programme in Physics from 2017.
  • The Integrated Ph.D. programme in Physics at HRI is discontinued from 2017.

JEST Application Fees:

According to the JEST 2018 Notification, Candidates who are interested in filling up JEST Application For4m have to pay an amount of Rs.300/- as application fees where as SC/ST applicants have to pay Rs.150/- against the application form of JEST.

The amount of application will only be accepted via online mode i.e. by using Credit card / Debit Card or via net banking. no other mode to pay the application amount will be accepted by the authorities.

JEST Selection:

Selection of candidates for the Courses available will be done on the basis of their performance in the entrance examination and the JEST Merit List.

How to fill up JEST 2018 Application Form?

To fill up the application form complete the JEST 2018 Login Steps:

  • First of all candidates have to log on to the JEST 2018 Website i.e.
  • After reaching the homepage candidates need to hit on Register tab available on that same page
  • Afterwards a new page will come out along with some details and link
  • Again hit on appropriate link regarding filling up the JEST Application Form 2018
  • Now fill up the online registration form and upload all the requisite testimonials according to the size prescribed.
  • Afterwards pay the application fees by using your Credit card / Debit Card or via net banking
  • At last recheck the details you have entered and hit on the final submission tab
  • once you hit the submission tab you will receive a Mail / SMS containing a Log In ID and Password
  • keep the credentials safe as they will be used further to get your Admit card / result etc

JEST exam 2017 Pattern will be of total 3 hrs to solve the entire question paper. Approximately 40% questions will be from B.Sc. level and 60% will be from M.Sc. level

JEST 2018 Admit Card:

Candidates who will appear in the JEST Examination will have to carry their JEST Hall Ticket. The JEST Call Letter will be available on the Official Website of JEST in 4th week of Jan 2018. Candidates who will not carry their Admit Card will not be permissible to appear in the examination. After downloading the JEST 2018 Exam Admit card candidates are advised to check the following:

  • Candidate Roll no
  • Application Form Number

JEST Answer Key:

The authorities of Joint Entrance Screening Test will release the JEST Solution PDF after at least 4 days of examination. Candidates who will appear in the examination may download the Exam Solution PDF from the official website. After releasing the answer key the authorities will release the JEST 2018 Result

JEST 2018 Results:

After successfully commencing the examination the authorities of JEST will declare the JEST Scorecard. The authorities will declare the JEST Results in March 2018. Candidates who will give the JEST Exam Papers may download their JEST Merit List from the official website. Those candidates whose names will appear in the JEST 2018 Cut Off will become Eligible to appear in the JEST Counselling Session.
