1) Hindi (Approx. 52.83 crore Speakers):

The most spoken language in India is Hindi. In almost all states of India, this language is spoken specially in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi. If comparing Hindi language to the world, then Hindi is the fourth most spoken language. The first three spoken languages in the world are Mandarin, Spanish and English.

2) Bengali (Approx. 9.72 crore Speakers):

After Hindi, Bengali is the second most spoken language of India. Almost 8% of the total population is speaking Bengali. Bengali is considered as an Indo-Aryan language which is mostly spoken in South Asia. West Bengal, Jharkhand, Assam and Tripura are some of the states of India, where this language is generally spoken.

3) Marathi (Approx. 8.30 crore Speakers):

States like Goa and Maharashtra of India, spokes Marathi as the official language and is considered as an Indo-Aryan language.

4) Telugu (Approx. 8.11 crore Speakers):

Telugu language is widely spoken in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Yanam etc states of India. This language is also spoken in some other countries. Countries like United States, United Kingdom, New Zealand, Australia, United Arab Emirates and South Africa also spokes this language.

5) Tamil (Approx. 6.90 crore Speakers):

Tamil Language is the official language of Singapore and Sri Lanka but it is also widely spoken in some states of India. Almost 6.90 crore of people speak Tamil language in the country.

6) Gujarati (Approx. 5.54 crore Speakers):

Gujarati is considered as the official language of Gujarat. Almost 5.54 crore people in India is speaking this language.

7) Urdu (Approx. 5.07 crore Speakers):

Urdu language is spoken in some of the states of India like West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Telangana and Jharkhand. Also, Urdu is considered as an official language of Pakistan.

8) Kannada (Approx. 4.37 crore Speakers):

Kannada is one of the oldest language and is still spoken in the world. In countries like Australia, the United States and Canada, this language is spoken. Tamil and Kannada both are Dravidian language.

9) Odia (Approx. 3.75 crore Speakers):

This language is mostly spoken in the Odisha state of India. Around 3% of the population is speaking this language.

10) Malayalam (Approx.  3.48 crore Speakers):

Malayalam Language is mostly spoken in the states of Kerala, Puducherry and Lakshadweep. Around 33 million people are using this as the native language.

What about English Language?

In India, English language is considered as the second official language and is generally spoken during the time of businesses and trade. Around 10% of people speak English and only 0.019% of people considered it as the first language. Around 375 million speakers are there of English language across the globe.
