Computer Architecture

PART-A

Register Transfer and Micro operations: Register transfer language & operations, arithmetic microoperations, logic microoperations, shift microoperations, arithmetic logic shift unit.  Design of a complete basic computer and its working.

Basic Computer Organization and Design:  Instruction codes, Computer registers, Computer Instructions, Timing and control, Instruction Cycle, Memory reference instructions, Input/ Output and Interrupt, Design of basic Computer, Design of Accumulator Logic.

Design of Control Unit: Control memory, design of control unit – micro programmed, hardwired, and their comparative study.

Central Processing Unit:  General Register Organization, Stack Organization, Instruction formats, Addressing Modes, Data transfer and manipulations, Program control, RISC and CISC architecture.

PTU Syllabus B Tech – AM 201 MATHEMATICS-III

Fourier Series Periodic functions, Euler’s formula. Even and odd functions, half range expansions, Fourier series of different wave forms.
Laplace Transforms Laplace transforms of various standard functions, properties of Laplace transforms, inverse Laplace transforms, transform of derivatives and integrals, Laplace transform of unit step function, impulse function, periodic functions, applications to solution of ordinary linear differential equations with constant coefficients, and simultaneous differential equations.
Special Functions  Power series solution of differential equations, Frobenius method, Legendre’s equation, Legendre polynomial, Bessel’s equation, Bessel functions of the first and second kind. Recurrence relations, equations reducible to Bessel’s equation, Error function and its properties.
Partial Differential Equations  Formation of partial differential equations, Linear partial differential equations, homogeneous partial differential equations with constant coefficients Applications- Wave equation and Heat conduction equation in one dimension. Two dimensional Laplace equation, solution by the method of separation of variables. Laplacian in polar coordinates.
Functions of Complex Variable  Limits, continuity, derivative of complex functions, analytic function, Cauchy-Riemann equation, conjugate functions, harmonic functions; Conformal Mapping- Mapping of a complex function, conformal mapping, standard transforms, mapping of standard elementary transformations, complex potential, applications to fluid flow problems; Complex Integration – Line integrals in the complex plane, Cauchy’s theorem, Cauchy’s integral formula and derivatives of analytic function. Taylor’s and Laurent’s expansions, singular points, poles, residue, complex integration using the method of residues, evaluation of real integrals by contour integration.

PTU B Tech Mechanical Syllabus:

BTME 301 Strength of Materials – I

Unit –I :

Simple, Compound Stresses and Strains: Stress and Strain and their types, Hook’s law, longitudinal and lateral strain, Poisson’s ratio, stress-strain diagram for ductile and brittle materials, extension of a bar due to without and with self weight, bar of uniform strength, stress in a bar, elastic constants and their significance, relation between elastic constants, Young’s modulus of elasticity, modulus of rigidity and bulk modulus. Temperature stress and strain calculation due to axial load and variation of temperature in single and compound bars. Two dimensional stress system, stress at a point on a plane, principal stresses and principal planes, Mohr’s circle of stress ellipse of stress and their applications. Generalized Hook’s law, principal stresses related to principal strains.

Unit –II :

Bending Moment (B.M) and Shear Force (S.F) Diagrams: S.F and B.M definitions; relation between load, shear force and bending moment; B.M and S.F diagrams for cantilevers, simply supported beams with or without overhangs, and calculation of maximum B.M and S.F and the point of contra flexure under the following loads-

  1. a) Concentrated loads
  2. b) Uniformity distributed loads over the whole span or part of span
  3. c) Combination of concentrated and uniformly distributed load
  4. d) Uniformly varying loads

Unit –III :

Bending Stresses In Beams: Assumptions in the simple bending theory; derivation of formula and its application to beams of rectangular, circular and channel, I and T- sections. Combined direct and bending stresses in afore-mentioned sections, composite / flitched beams.

 Unit –IV :

Torsion: Derivation of torsion equation and its assumptions and its application to the hollow and solid circular shafts. Torsional rigidity, combined torsion and bending of circular shafts; principal stress and maximum shear stresses under combined loading of bending and torsion.

Unit –V :

Columns and struts: Introduction, failure of columns, Euler’s formula, Rankine-Gordon’s formula, Johnson’s empirical formula for axially loaded columns and their applications.

Unit –VI :

Slope and deflection: Relationship between moment, slope and deflection; method of integration, Macaulay’s method, moment area method and use of these methods to calculate slope and deflection for the following –

  1. a) Cantilevers
  2. b) Simply supported beams with or without overhang
  3. c) Under concentrated loads, uniformly distributed loads or combination of concentrated & uniformly distributed loads.
