## Surface Area of Cube

Surface Area of a cube is the total area of the outside surfaces of the cube or we can say that number of square units that will exactly cover the surface of a cube. Interested ones can get Surface Area of Cube Formula and How to Calculate TSA, CSA, LSA of Cube from here.

Surface Area of Cube is measured in terms of square unit and students should know that a cube has 6 identical square faces and hence it is also called as hexahedron. From the below tuned image, must note that each faces have 4 edges and 12 edges in a cube.

Surface Area of a Cube Formula is,

Surface area of Cube=6a2

Where,
a is the side length of the cube.

Solved Examples

Question 1: What is the surface area of a cube of side 5 cm ?

Solution:

Given,
Side of the cube = a = 5 cm

Surface Area of a Cube
= 6a2
= 6 x 52 cm2
= 6 x 25 cm2
= 150 cm2

Question 2: What is the surface area of a cube of side 17 cm ?

Solution:

Given,
Side of the cube = a = 17 cm

Surface Area of a Cube
= 6a2
= 6 x 172 cm2
= 6 x 289 cm2
= 1734 cm2

Find the surface area if the length of one side is 3 cm
Surface area = 6 × a2
= 6 × 32
= 6 × 3 × 3
= 54 cm2

Find the surface area if the length of one side is 5 cm
Surface area = 6 × a2
= 6 × 52
= 6 × 5 × 5
= 150 cm2

How to Calculate TSA, CSA, LSA of Cube?

Here are some formulas from which you can calculate Total Surface Area of a Cube, Lateral surface area of cube and curved area of cube. So go and check and start practice accordingly.

Total Surface Area of a Cube = 6 l2

CSA of cube = 4 a square

Lateral surface area of cube

2(l×l+l×l) = 4l2

Note:

• Diagonal of the cuboid = √l2 + b2 + h2
• Perimeter of a cuboid = 4(l+b+h)
• Diagonal of a cube = √3l
• Perimeter of a cube = 12l

Example 1: Find the total surface area of cuboid with dimensions 2 inch by 3 inch by 7 inch.

Solution:

Total Surface Area(TSA) = 2 (lb + bh + hl )

TSA = 2 ( 2*3 + 3*7 + 7*2 )
TSA = 2 ( 6 + 21 + 14 )
TSA = 82

So, the total surface area of this cuboid is 82 inches2

Example 2: The length, width and height of a cuboid are 12 cm, 13 cm and 15 cm respectively. Find the lateral surface area of a cuboid.

Solution:

Lateral surface area of a cuboid is given by:

LSA = 2h ( l + w )

Insert the values into the formula,

LSA = 2*15 ( 12 + 13 )
LSA = 750 cm2
