XAT Exam Basics:

  • The exam features two sections: objective and subjective.
  • The subjective portion of the exam has an essay writing section.
  • The total time allotted for the exam is 180 minutes.
  • Areas tested in the aptitude exam: (i) Verbal and Logical Ability (ii) Decision Making (iii) Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation (iv) General Knowledge.
  • No sectional time limit in the pen and paper exam.
  • The marks obtained in the General Knowledge section will not be used for determining the percentile and cut-off at the first stage of selection.
  • The exam generally has one-fourth negative marking.
  • The exam has variable number of questions in 2011, 2012 and 2013. 2011 had a total of 100 questions, 2012 had a total of 85 questions and 2013 had a total of 91 questions.
