XAT Exam Basics:

  • The exam features two sections: objective and subjective.
  • The subjective portion of the exam has an essay writing section.
  • The total time allotted for the exam is 180 minutes.
  • Areas tested in the aptitude exam: (i) Verbal and Logical Ability (ii) Decision Making (iii) Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation (iv) General Knowledge.
  • No sectional time limit in the pen and paper exam.
  • The marks obtained in the General Knowledge section will not be used for determining the percentile and cut-off at the first stage of selection.
  • The exam generally has one-fourth negative marking.
  • The exam has variable number of questions in 2011, 2012 and 2013. 2011 had a total of 100 questions, 2012 had a total of 85 questions and 2013 had a total of 91 questions.

Prepare Section-Wise: Each section need equivalent attention as the exam is considered relatively challenging and competitive. Make a plan for your studies by creating a accurate schedule where you assign sufficient time for all the papers.

Improve your Verbal Ability and General Awareness: Read newspapers, editorials, magazines, and other books to boost your vocabulary skills and general knowledge. Mark new words you come across, add them in your note book and use them wherever applicable. The basics of English grammar should be clear. Engage in group discussions.
