Tie Breaking in JEE Advanced 2019
If the aggregate marks scored by two or more candidates in JEE Advanced are the same, then the following tie-break policy will be used for awarding the ranks. Complete details are given below.
Step 1: Candidates having higher positive marks will be awarded a higher rank.
If the tie-breaking criterion at Step 1 fails to break the tie, then the following criterion will be followed.
Step 2: Higher rank will be assigned to the candidate who has obtained higher marks in Mathematics.
If this does not break the tie, higher rank will be assigned to the candidate who has obtained higher marks in Physics.

Answer: Keep at most 50-60 marks as a difference between your JEE Advanced score and the maximum marks. For example, if the paper is of 400 marks, then scoring at least 340 out of 400 will give you a very good rank. And if the paper is of 360, then scoring at least 320 will give you very good rank.
