National Overseas Scholarship Scheme 2020-21 | for Scheduled Caste/OBC

National Overseas Scholarship

Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, India provides National Overseas Scholarship Scheme to Scheduled Caste/OBC and low income students, so that they can take benefit of it and get a chance to study abroad through this scholarship scheme. Students can pursue a Master’s degree or PhD programme through this scheme and by studying well they can improve their status in the society.

National Overseas Scholarship

Category Wise Distribution of Slots:

Scheduled Castes90

Minimum Qualification Required:

  • Candidates applying for Master’s Degree programme should have atleast 60% of marks or equivalent in bachelor’s degree programme.
  • Those applying for Ph. D courses should have atleast 60% of marks or equivalent in Master’s Degree courses.

Age Limit:

Candidates applying for National Overseas Scholarship Scheme 2020-21, their age should not be more than 35 (Thirty Five) years, as on first day of April, 2020.

Family Income:

The total family income of the applying candidates shall not exceed Rs. 8.00 lakh per annum in the previous year, i.e., 2019-20.

Selection Procedure:

For every selection phase, merit list will be drawn on the basis of the rank and as per the latest available QS ranking of foreign Universities/ Institutions. For more details about the selection process, read National Overseas Scholarship 2020 Guidelines given below.

Duration of Award with Financial Assistance:

The prescribed financial assistance will be provided till the completion of the course/research:

  • Ph.D – 04 years (Four years)
  • Master’s Degree – 03 years (Three years)

Grant Details:

The expenses covered under National Overseas Scholarship Scheme are as:

  • Maintenance Allowance
  • Contingency Allowance
  • Poll Tax
  • Incidental Journey and Equipment Allowance
  • Visa Fees
  • Tuition Fees
  • Medical Insurance Premium
  • Air Passage
  • Local Travel

National Overseas Scholarship Application Procedure:

  • Candidates need to visit the official portal i.e. to apply online for the application form.
  • Press on “Menu” given at the top of the site.
  • From drop-down box, select “Login/Register” link.
  • New candidates will press on “Register Yourself” button appearing on the opened page.
  • Fill up the student registration form by entering all the necessary details.
  • At last, press on “Submit” button to complete the registration process.

Documents Required:

  • Caste/Category certificate
  • Date of birth certificate
  • Photo
  • Scanned signature
  • Current address proof
  • Permanent address proof
  • Qualifying mark sheet/Degree
  • Valid document for marks
  • Valid document regarding admission in Foreign University
  • Income certificate of all family members contributing to the household
  • Employer’s NOC certificate (if the applicant is employed)

Important Date:

Last Date to apply for scholarship: 30th July 2020

In case the slots remain unfilled, then the application process will be again reopened in quarter wise way for a period of 30 days (i.e. from 1st July, 2020 to 30th July, 2020, 1st October, 2020 to 30th October, 2020 and 1st January, 2021 to 30th January, 2021)

1) After first round of selection, category-wise position of 58 vacant slots is as:-

2) Result of second round of selection will be declared soon.
