Uttar Pradesh had 83 districts before the year 2000. In the year 2000, Uttarakhand was carved out of the mountainous region of Uttar Pradesh, in which 13 districts of Uttar Pradesh moved to Uttarakhand.

In 2000, Uttar Pradesh had the first 40 districts, and 13 more districts were created. Due to this, the total number of districts was 63. After this, when the state of Uttarakhand was formed in November, 13 districts of the total district went to Uttarakhand.
Then the cabinet of Uttar Pradesh created 5 more districts, making the number of districts to be 75. The villages in Uttar Pradesh are much more than the number of villages in any other state of India.

History of Uttar Pradesh
The history of Uttar Pradesh can be studied by dividing it into the following five parts-
(1) Prehistoric and pre-Vedic period (up to 400 BCE),
(2) Hindu-Buddhist period (from 400 BCE to 1200 AD),
(3) Medieval period (from 1200 to 1856),
(4) British period (from 1858 to 1949) and
(5) Post-independence period (from 1947 till now).
