State Bank of India (SBI) conducts SBI PO Exam every year to recruit eligible candidates for various vacancies of Probationary Officers (PO). In order to get selected for the available PO posts, candidates are required to first check the complete details regarding SBI PO Paper Pattern and then start their preparation accordingly.

SBI Probationary Officer Stages Of Examination:
As per the SBI PO selection procedure, candidates participating in recruitment will have to undergo 3 phases given below. Get complete SBI PO Exam Pattern from this page.
- Phase 1: Preliminary Examination
- Phase 2: Main Examination
- Phase 3: Group Exercises and Interview
SBI PO Prelims Exam Pattern:
Preliminary Examination consisting of Objective Test for 100 marks will be conducted online. The test will have of 3 Sections (with separate timings for each section) as follows. Check the SBI PO Preliminary Exam Pattern from below table.
As per the SBI PO Marking Scheme given in SBI PO Prelims Exam Pattern, candidates are given 1 marks for each correct answer, whereas 1/4 of the total marks allotted to a question will be deducted for incorrect answer.

SBI PO Mains Exam Pattern:
- Main Examination will consist of Objective Tests for 200 marks and Descriptive Test for 50 marks. Both the Objective and Descriptive Tests will be online.

SBI PO Mains Exam Pattern for Objective Test:

SBI PO Exam Pattern for Descriptive Test:
- The Descriptive Test of 30 minutes duration with two questions for 50 marks will be a Test of English Language (Letter Writing & Essay).
- Penalty for Wrong Answers (Applicable to both – Preliminary and Main examination)
Sectional Marks will not be maintained for both Preliminary & Main Examinations.
Selection criteria for Phase-III: Category wise merit list will be drawn on the basis of the aggregate marks scored inPhase-II (Main Exam). There will be no sectional cut-off. Candidates numbering up to 3 times (approx.) of the category wise vacancies will be shortlisted for Phase-III from the top of the category wise merit list subject to a candidate scoring the minimum aggregate qualifying score, as decided by the Bank.
Phase-III Comprise of (i) Psychometric Test (ii) GROUP EXERCISE & (iii) INTERVIEW
Psychometric Test:
The Bank will conduct Psychometric test for personality profiling, of those candidates who will be shortlisted for PhaseIII. Finding of the test may be placed before the Interview panel for having a thorough perspective on the candidates.

(i) Group Exercise – Maximum Marks 20
Interview – 30
Total – 50 marks
The minimum qualifying marks will be as decided by the Bank.
Candidates qualifying for Phase-III under ‘OBC’ category would be required to submit OBC certificate
containing the ‘Non-Creamy layer’ clause. Candidates who have registered themselves as OBC but do not
submit OBC ‘Non-Creamy layer’ certificate and request for interview under General category will not be
entertained.
Final Selection –
The candidates will have to qualify both in Phase-II and Phase-III separately. The marks obtained in Main Examination (Phase-II), both in the Objective Test and the Descriptive Test, will be added to the marks obtained in Phase-III for preparing the final merit list. The marks obtained in the Preliminary Examination (Phase-I) will not be added for preparing the final merit list for selection.
The marks obtained by the candidates in Phase – II (Main Examination both Objective & Descriptive Tests) and Phase – III (Group Exercise & Interview) will be normalised to 100 marks as detailed below.

The final merit list is arrived at after aggregating (out of 100) converted marks of Phase-II and Phase-III. Selection will be made from the top merit ranked candidates in each category.
