GATE Eligibility Criteria
In GATE entrance exam, two new papers added, which are Marine Engineering & Naval Architecture, and Geomatics Engineering. Thus, there will be 30 papers for the GATE 2024 Examination instead of 27 papers (old) available as options to get admission in IITs, NITs, and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs) in India.
As per latest Eligibility for GATE, there is no age limit to appear in GATE Exam. Candidates, who will match with GATE Eligibility Criteria 2024, will only eligible to fill GATE Application Form only. You can also know the Qualification criteria, No. of Attempts by going through this page.

The student must be either:
- A Citizen of India or a subject of Nepal or a subject of Bhutan or
- A Tibetan Refugee who came over to India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India or
- A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India

GATE Eligibility Criteria
For International Students
Those Candidate who are from outside India must meet below given criteria:
- Completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Master’s Degree in a relevant Science Subject.
- Appearing for the final year of the degree course are also eligible.
GATE Eligibility for Backlog Students
Candidates who have backlogs in any paper should do the following either:
- Submit a copy of any one of the marks sheets of the final year or
- Have to obtain a declaration from their Principal along with the signature and seal beforehand and upload the same during the online submission of the application form.
GATE Age Limit:
There is no restriction on students’ age those who are willing to appear in Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering 2023 as per Eligibility for GATE. Aspirant of any age are eligible to appear in GATE Exam.
Number of Attempts For GATE:
There is no limit on number of attempts to appear in Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering Exam. According to Eligibility Criteria for GATE, aspirants can take this test as many times as they want but one should try to clear it in first or second attempt.

What’s New in GATE 2024?
- This year, IIT Kharagpur has introduced two new papers for GATE 2023 that are Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering and Geomatics Engineering.
- IIT Kharagpur has decreased GATE 2024 exam centres in some zones.
- A candidate appearing in one or two papers must fill only one application form.
- If you fill multiple applications, only one will be accepted and other applications will be rejected without any refund for the paid fee.
- Candidates appearing for more than one paper must pay the GATE 2024 Application Fee separately for both papers.
It is compulsory for the students to match the much needed GATE 2024 Eligibility criteria before applying against it. Only those students who fulfill the criteria can attend the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering 2024 Exam.

Question 1: Is there any age limit to appear for Graduate Aptitude Test 2023?
Answer: No, there is no age limit criterion to appear in the exam.
Question 2: Are there any GATE Eligibility Criteria 2024 regarding the nationality of a candidate?
Answer: As per the official website, candidates belonging to the following countries can apply for the 2024 exam –

Question 3: Are there any restrictions on the number of times one can appear for the Graduate Aptitude Test?

Answer: Candidates can apply for only ‘one’ GATE paper that is appropriate for the discipline of the undergraduate engineering course they are appearing for.
Question 5: have passed my final year of engineering in 2023 but I have not got my degree, am I eligible?
Answer: Yes, you are eligible to appear for GATE 2024 if you have passed your B.Tech in 2023. Candidates who have not received their degree can upload their final year Marksheet (of any one semester).
