The organization acquired independent status in 1984. IBPS has an agreement with nineteen Public Sector Banks to conduct the eligibility exam for selection to these banks. The exam is termed as the Common Written Examination also known as CWE.

Recruitment in Banks through IBPS
Those candidates, who wish to get hired through IBPS in any of 20 Public Sector Bank that comes under this board, shall be required to firstly go through preliminary exam followed by mains exam. Both pre and main exam will be conducted through online mode only.
Usually the recruitment is completed in three phases – Preliminary, Mains, Personal Interview and final placement depending upon the posts.

IBPS SO Exam is conducted to select eligible candidates for the vacancies of I. T. Officers (Scale I), Agricultural Field Officers (Scale I), Rajbhasha Adhikari (Scale I), Law Officers (Scale I), HR / Personnel Officers (Scale I), and Marketing Officers (Scale I). The IBPS SO selection process includes Common Written Examination (Prelims & Mains) followed by Common Interview.

- Candidates must have done graduation or post-graduation as per the requirements of the position in the respected fields from government recognized University or Institution.
- Also, Contenders should have good knowledge of basic computer.
- For IBPS RRB Vacancies, individuals must have knowledge of local language of the region for which the application is being applied.
Age Limit for IBPS
Age limit for IBPS exam has been set between 20 years to 28 years. However, individuals belonging to reserved category will be provided some years of relaxation in the upper age limit as per the norms of the Organization or Government.
IBPS Common Recruitment Process
Recruitment process of IBPS (Institute of Banking Personnel Selection) will be executed in following manner –
- Common Written Exam (CWE) – Prelims and Mains
- Score card release by IBPS those who clear the written exam.
- Based on score card, Candidates will be called for interview.
- After the final interview, concern bank will call the provisionally selected individuals for Documents Verification Round.
- After the document verification, Appointment letter is issued by the concern Bank.

Most of the time the application forms is submitted via online mode. After successful submission of the applications the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection conducts a recruitment examination for the candidates who apply for the vacancies.
Afterwards on the basis of candidate’s performance in the examination, the IBPS Results gets declared. Those candidates who qualify the examination become eligible to attend the further selection procedure i.e. the Personal Interview Round. On the basis of candidate’s performance in the interview final selection decision is made.
